The Stortfordian Foundation

Branding Project / Social Media Banners

Demographic: Parents, Staff, Alumni, wider public

Bishop's Stortford College approached me to work with them on a new branding identity for their new alumni community The Stortfordian Foundation.

They wanted the new branding to be traditional but also modern, clean and fresh. It needed to be distinct but not dissimilar from the main logo crest of the College.

The colours were already set but they were flexible on typeface and design.

I created a number of concepts for them, some which pull out elements of the crest logo without using the whole crest, so it was still recognisably belonging to the school with a different twist, some using their full colour palette and some with a crisper more modern feel by simplifying it into a rectangular border and monochrome, but still retaining the traditional elements that are recognisable as part of the College.

One concept involved taking the book from the crest as the main emblem as this signifies ‘education & wisdom’ which seemed the most appropriate part of the crest to use for the Foundation if only using one element. I also played with the idea of building up a community around the ‘education’ with the people figures.

We decided on the full crest version in the end, with the crest watermarked in grey and a blend of traditional and modern typefaces.

I created this for them in 3 diffferent aspects for different uses and also created single colour and web/print versions and versions with and without the tag line.

I also created some brand guidelines for them to ensure that all materials created for the foundation going forwards are uniform.

The college came back to me a few months later to design them some simple web banners for the launch of their 'giving day'.

It has been a real pleasure to work with Anne on our recent brand design project. She understood from the outset what we needed, when we needed it and how she could satisfy our evolving brief. Anne creatively guided us through the project, listened closely to our ideas and strategy and delivered exactly what we hoped for, on time and within budget. Her professionalism, creativity and attention to detail has set us in great stead to roll out our exciting new project. We wouldn't hesitate to work with Anne again and would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a graphic designer to collaborate with.
